Matt has almost finished coating the new front steps with Cetol. There are seven stringers for these steps and they are going to be bolted to the cement pad with right angle steel. Each stringer, tread and riser has been carefully milled to Wallace Smith’s specifications for waterproofing and water movement. Every single piece of wood has been coated with Cetol 1 and then two coats of Cetol 2-3. Where wood meets wood between the stringers and the posts, Matt has applied a coating of marine epoxy. These steps are going to be both beautiful and they are going to last for many years. In Vancouver’s wet climate, taking special care with waterproofing will make a huge difference in the longevity of any wood structure.
