We have tiled our first part of the bathroom backsplash! This is Matt’s second tile project and my first. I am a little hindered, working with a splinted, sprained wrist.
We started the process by figuring out the tile layout for the bathroom backsplash. There is a mirror, a light switch and an outlet to tile around. Plus, we have to figure out the different calculations for the two types of tile.
Next we mixed our first batch of mortar and figured out which notched trowel to use for each of the two types of tile, so the finished profile of the two thicknesses of tile would not be too great.
Our entire training for installing tile has been gleaned from home renovation shows on HGTV. Our efforts definitely improved as we moved through one batch of mortar after another.
We ended late last night ready to tile around the mirror to finish the backsplash and then tackle the tub/shower surround. We are happy with our results and look forward to grouting!
Thank goodness Matt is so handy with learning new tools. He has figured out the tile wetsaw very quickly, and is cutting tiles to fit like a pro!
